Mill House Garden

The garden was designed by Bunny Guinness – 6 times Gold Medal Winner at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, independently for the client who instructed Harrington brothers to carry out this exciting project. This involved landscaping the grounds of this exquisite mill house, set in 2 acres with a quarter of that being water. It certainly presented some challenges, due to a wet winter and the natural water course the ground was completely sodden.

The main features included extensive terracing of the land supported by dry stone walls, large paved and gravel area, a large vegetable plot and the formation of several natural and formal ponds, which involved diverting the natural flow of water from an existing lake at the highest point of the grounds.

We also constructed a new porch to the front of the main house and a new front boundary wall using a very old gate found on the property to gain entry. As very keen gardeners, our clients were busy planting out the land as work progressed, as you can see, a stunning mix, bringing harmony to both hard and soft aspects of the project.
